    For thirty years, Dr. Alan Mendelsohn has served as a national leader in the field of ophthalmology. He attended Northwestern University’s Honors Program in Medical Education and Northwestern University Medical School, where he also completed his residency training in Ophthalmology. At the completion of this training, the prestigious Heed Ophthalmic Foundation recognized him as one of the ten most outstanding graduating ophthalmologists in the United States. Alan Mendelsohn MD, FACS is an innovative leader in developing and enhancing laser procedures for glaucoma and cataract surgery, and has published his work in prestigious scientific publications. Dr. Mendelsohn and his family moved to South Florida in 1986, where he completed a Fellowship at the renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. While practicing in South Florida, Dr. Mendelsohn has been actively engaged in organized medicine at the local, state, and national levels. He served as President of the Florida Society of Ophthalmology in 1996 and has assumed leadership roles for two decades in that organization’s public policy efforts. For twelve consecutive years, physicians throughout South Florida awarded Dr. Alan Mendelsohn with the prestigious “Top Doctor” Award based on his clinical and surgical skills. Of the approximately 150 ophthalmologists in Broward County, typically, only 4 ophthalmologists are selected for this honor. For three decades, physicians throughout the community consistently refer to Dr. Mendelsohn as a “Doctor’s Doctor”. He continues to proudly serve dozens of physicians and their families (including regional ophthalmologists), as their go-to doctor for all of their vision and ophthalmic surgical needs. Dr. Alan Mendelsohn has held numerous leadership positions in both the Broward County Medical Association and the Florida Medical Association. He has also received a number of national and state-wide awards for his efforts and leadership from organizations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Florida Medical Association, and the Florida Society of Ophthalmology. Alan Mendelsohn MD, FACS has authored numerous scientific publications and has presented his findings at international and national ophthalmology society conferences.

    O.D.

    Dr. Nathan Klein is a graduate of the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. He has been practicing in Memphis as an Optometric Physician since his graduation in 2013. Dr. Klein developed expertise in comprehensive primary care optometry with special interests in Diabetic Eye Diseases, macular degeneration, glaucoma, pediatrics, contact lenses, and the newest ophthalmic technologies. He brings these superb skills and new treatments to Eye Surgeons & Consultants. He was born and raised in Toronto. Growing up as the son of an optician, Dr. Klein developed a keen interest in enhancing vision and preserving eyesight. He worked at the family optical throughout his school years and vacations. He and his family spent 8 years in Memphis prior to relocating to Hollywood, FL. Dr. Klein has stellar expertise in improving visual acuity by altering or tweaking the prescriptions for eyeglasses and contact lenses. Frequently, utilizing the newest technologies in ophthalmics, Dr. Klein is able to enhance his patients’ vision for specific tasks such as night driving, working on computers, or reading. Dr. Klein welcomes patients seeking second opinions or help with visual acuity endeavors. In the past, many individuals were uncomfortable wearing contact lenses due to irritation, dry eyes, excessive movement, or achy eyes. There is now wonderful news in that a revolutionary type of contact lens, scleral lenses, can be fit for the vast majority of patients who were previously unhappy or uncomfortable with contact lenses. These lenses provide sharper vision, greater lens wearing time, and easier handling as a result of the amazing advancements of scleral contact lenses. They are especially helpful for those with dry eyes, keratoconus, irregular astigmatism, and Sjogrens Syndrome. Nathan Klein O.D. is one of Florida’s foremost experts in scleral contact lenses. Dr. Klein has also developed a niche in managing and treating chronic Dry Eye Disease. Nathan Klein, OD, utilizes all of the newest technologies and medications in the treatment of this condition and has even become a foremost expert in the newest generation of punctal plugs. Because of his excellent skills and gentle touch, Dr. Klein is able to ensure patients are thrilled with their dry-eye symptom relief, newfound ocular comfort, and freedom from regimens of endless eye drops. He has been married to his wife, Leora, since 2010 and has three children, Allie, Layla, and Gabe. Dr. Klein enjoys spending quality time with his family in addition to cooking, exercising, and playing sports, especially ice hockey.
